 KHS PAST FALL DRAMAS

KHS's Next New Drama, "Noises Off"
is a Play Within a Play
                                           by John Griggs'09

This Fall the drama being performed  Nov.30 and Dec. 1 at Kinnelon is not a drama at all, but Michael Frayn's comedic play "Noises Off". This quick witted and frenetically paced play is characterized as a farce and should leave students and people of all ages in stitches.

The play amuses the audience using various word plays, the bizarre, awkward conversation, and unlikely situations that all culminate in the third and final act when everything seems to fall apart.

Lauren Mills, the director of the upcoming play at the high school describes it as "a classic play that's fast paced and a mad comedy.  It is not one play but two with the two inevitably coming together in a hilarious and disastrous way."

"Nothing On" , the play within the play, is a raunchy performance that the characters are trying to prepare for but are nowhere near perfecting when opening night rolls around.    Each act of "Noises Off" goes through one dreadful presentation of the play after another until the final show wherein the most problems arise.  The second of the three presentations is shown from the perspective of the actors backstage allowing the audience to particularly witness exactly how much the cast detests one another.  At this point they are only trying to make things for one another more complicated by generating off-stage noises and mischief(revealed in the title of the play) that sequentially ruin the play but allow for some good laughs.

Acquiring the rights in order to perform the play was a challenge for Lauren Mills who persisted in getting them."I have always loved this piece,"she responds when asked why she struggled so hard to obtain them.  "It's a great show for actors that will require timing and focus, something I am confident the students will be able to pull off."

The students who will be performing in the play seemed to be very excited as rehearsals began Sept.20.  They are working hard and giving it their all to make this peformance, the best drama/comedy ever!
Performances are Nov.30th and Dec.1 at 8PM. Tickets will be on sale at Kinnelon High School Nov. 27 to Nov.29 from noon until 3:30PM and based upon availability, may also be sold, one hour before each performance. For ticket information call 973-283-2578.  There is some mild adult humor in the show so it may not be suitable for children under 13. If you need a good laugh and love comedy this is definitely a play you won't want to miss!
